Ford has stopped production of one of its commercial vehicles because it uses gas pedals made by the same company involved in Toyota’s recent massive recall.

The diesel version of Ford’s Transit Classic was being made in China with accelerators built by CTS Corp., an Indiana-based company with a plant in Mississauga.

A spokesman said none of Ford’s other vehicles contain pedals made by CTS and the one in question – which is not sold in Canada – has not yet been recalled.

No problems have been reported and Ford is reviewing the part before determining its next step.

Toyota recalled millions of vehicles and halted production because of fears their pedals may get stuck and cause their cars to accelerate.

Ford and Toyota are the only companies to stop production although CTS supplies various automakers with its pedals.
