to be honest with you. ranking university is kind of stupid, so many parameters and so many methodologies, none of the organization has done a decent job in this field. relatively speaking, i only take two magazines seriously: one is Business Week, the other is Financial Times, both of them rank MBA annualy. macleans is kind of ****, so please don't take their judgement seriously.
like i said before, all i doing is to be a messenger to tell the news. worst in comprehensive catogory, that's maclean's verdit, not wang8's.
put it simple, ranking university is similar with ranking personal vehicles.
3 class: sedan, suv, and light truck.
if you want to compare a sedan with a suv, its like comparing a Benz s600 with a Land Rover, it is just uncomparable. but if you compare toyota corollar with chresler neon, things may become intresting, most of us will say corollar is better, but we still see plenty of neon on the road.

don't take it personal, ok? but if you want to compare yourself with me, statistically, i earn more than the 99% of ohter canadian and i graduated from concordia.
personally, i think Lada is the worst car ever been sold in canada. if you are new immigrant, you might not that familiar with this brand since it went out of the market 10 years or so ago and people are completely unsatisfied with it. it ranked many many times by auto magazine as the worst car in any classes. you tell me what kind of stupid people buy this car? stupid? not for sure. we shall call them financially challenged people, to be more percise.
i don't take macleans seriously, because it ranked laval, which is one of the largest and best franqephone university in the world. (not only chretien, many other politicians graduated from laval as well, its law department is world class) really low. that s*ucks. but, if you really don't think concordia deserved to be called the worst, you don't see enough universities in canada.

一年过去了，2002年maclean依然把concordia排在倒数第一。
但这又有什么关系呢？毕竟它的英语要求低！很多人toefl考来考去都考不过237，没有一所大学愿意录取他们为CS Master。最后只有求康大。

你可以去macleans的网站去看今年的排名。
它是分成3个类别来排列的，康大属于第2类的最后一名。当然如果混在一起排，第3类中所有大学（比如bishop之流）都不如康大。

I'd like to apply university, (McGill or Concordia). there are some unclear points.
1.the GRE is not initial for graduate course, right?
2.and bachalor degree is initial for that, right? I have only diploma of 3 years w/5 years expericence, can I apply it directly?
3. it seems job market is poor even w/high degree. so shall I apply for part time course?

Wang8, it was unadvisable of you to post that message. You should not have insulted the majority here. Most of chinese students here are studying in Concordia. They, of course, can not tolerate such rank. They naturally suppose either you are a loser for concordia or a student in McGill. If you are the former, it is no surprise that you hate Concordia. If you are the latter, it is easily suspected that you wanna magnify yourself by preaching down concordian.
As to the rank, in my opinion, it has reasonable aspects, for Macleans, as a well-known magazine, would not have simply drawn a rank before investigating carefully. Of course, it is a general rank. Academic quality is just only one of the considered factors. Why concordia was ranked to end of the line? Let's probe the answer. Concordia is unfortunately located in Quebec, a french-speaking province. As one of few english-teaching universities in Quebec, it
is fated that concordia get funds from government much less than that other French-teaching universities do. Money, however, is vital for the development of a unversity. Money therefore becomes the prior consideration of concordia. To recruit more students and force them to take their english courses are the ways to get money. That is why they don't need Toefl and Gre for admission and why they prefer international students and the students from other provinces. It inevitably cause its academic quality down.
Anyway, thanks to concordia, many of us who have past the best age of study can have the chance to continue education. Thanks to concordia, many of us can get loan and bursary. Thanks to concordia, there are more space for us to study.
