I applied for the the University of Waterloo and was accepted by the university. I chose the university because their co-op programs were really appealing to me. The courses were very challenging and required high competance in problem-solving. Many guys quit because they could not cope with the heavy load. When at university,I started writing the actuarial exams and by the time I got my degree, I had passed four exams. (There are totaly eight exams.) Now I've completed six exams and I am an Associate of the Society of Actuaries.
The job is really challenging. You have to have excellent customer communication skills. Besides dealing with cusomers and solving problems, there's documentation. It is the toughest part.
Series of exams have to be gone through before I become an actuary.
In North America, professional exams are held by the Society of Actuaries. To become a qualified actuary, you must pass all the exams and obtain enough working experience.
If you want to be an actuary, get prepared to long years of tough work and also do remember that the graducation rate is very low. |
