I just got a parking ticket beside the Tim Horton's nearby Guy-Concordia Metro, $141:eek!:, it said there is no stopping after 3:30pm, but my car was there at 4:15. $141 is just ridiculous expensive!!! and the old woman gave me the ticket right beside me!(I found it when she was writing half of the ticket, I was just not too far away from my car), when I tried to explain to her, she spoke only French to me rudely and threw me the ticket and left!!!

I have decided I will go to court for this, can any one give me some suggestion how can I have more chance to win the old woman? Thank you a lot!

Why you want go to Court? you really park the wrong place. you have no chance to win. So just consider it is contribution to city.

1。4：15好象也是3：30PM以后吧，除非你是凌晨4：15，这句话不是很懂。
2。说了不能STOPPING，你还PARKING，好象你不对的多一点。因为连STOPPING都被禁止了，怎么还会能PARKING。
3。我看很多停在TH附近的车因为在下班高峰的时候PARKING在指明不能在这个时间STOPPING和PARKING的地方，除了罚单，还有拖车。也看到很多车主看着自己的车被拖，还叫来了警察。人家车主也说法语，统统的都没用。
所以，好象不太会赢

It's no use at this moment. Accoring to your description,you will lose at the court anyways. It's not allowed to park there cause during that time, it's reserved for public trasportation. Anything violated against the public service will cost you much more than general violation.
The only chance you could get under such kind of situation is, you got there before the lady really began to write you the ticket. You could try to explain such as, I didn't know, I just got here, I am leaving right now. Even so, she could still give you the ticket no matter you speak English or French. It doesn't matter. You violated the rule, giving you the ticket is her job. She got paid for doing this.
There again, if she didn't start to write the ticket, you got there, she was in a good mood, your explanation and manner was good too, you might get lucky to slip this time.
But, as soon as she started writing the ticket, you are done !!
My opinion, plead guilty and learn the lesson !!!
Everyone came along the same way.

Actually, you may have some chance to win this suit. I met the same situation 2 years ago, and later I defensed myself in the court and eventually the judge determined to cancel the Statement of Offence. Of course, I have my own reasons that are definitely convincing.

The key point is that you should find out the reasonable explanation for your action, and demonstrate why your action is unavoidable. As a matter of fact, you can always find out convinced reasons after making a thorough analysis of the whole situation.

In my opinion, you should not finalize your explanation on the back of the Statement of Offence until you find out suitable reasons.

I just decided I will plea guilty and pay the $141. I parked there because I didn't see there is a sign of no stopping, $141 is my lesson fee of careless.

I still feel the ticket officer was very rude and kind of dicrimination when she gave me the ticket, but after a few days' cool down, I don't think this should be an excute for myself to find a "way" to lie to the court.

Thank you for all of your response. for who had read this thread, I hope you won't make the same mistake as I did, you just need to be careful in checking the sign before you park you car. ;)

I've paid hundreds of dollars for careless parkings without reading/understanding the signs in the first two years of my driving experience. I got my driving licensee in Ontario, so that I didn't really understand the signs in French when I moved here in Montreal. However, once I've learnt all those lessons, I will eventually benefit myself in the future(I've already saved myself some money, after I've noticed that I parked in the restricted area few times), as well as my energy ;).

Drive carefully, save your life.

看不懂标识听不懂法语不是理由。我们有很多从Ontario去Quebec City旅游的同胞在那里拿到罚单之后，就以看不懂法语标识听不懂法语为理由发牢骚或者上诉，这些都是不可取的。
