求职的黄金季节即将来临，为了能够帮助更多的华人朋友找到专业工作，
我想组织一次聚会，聚会的宗旨：
1。 交流找工作的经验。
2。加强华人社区的团结。
在多伦多的网站上， 我看到多伦多的华人社会出现了很多积极为华人社区服
务的义工， 经常举办一些讲座邀请一些专业人士为华人找工作出谋化策，
在我们这个论坛上我也看到许多这样的热心人， 如加联华，唐朝美女，
所以我希望能提供一个机会让大家有当面交流的机会，所以希望有工作的专业人士和正在找工作的人士积极参加。

让交流会成为我们建立networking的起点

其实我最初提出团结合作的目的正是希望鼓舞我们共同建立长远合作的关系网，而一个好的华人社区将成为我们无形的关系网。这是解决求职hidden market的关键，也是华人的致命弱点。其实大家都知道其重要，但如果没有一定的策略，只是急功近利的看目前的交流会之中的机会，则很容易让人失望。而我一直呼吁的信任和团结则是维持关系网良性长期发展所必需的。

与会的有有工作的和准备求职的，还有留学生，座谈从2：00到6：00，超过了预定的时间，应该说还是有一定的深度。The following summary is based on discussion of us all.
1. Is there any professional job opportunity in Canada?
A: Of course.

2. Is there any professional job opportunity for Chinese in Canada?
A: Absolutely.

3. How can we get those jobs？
A: (1) Hard work in job-hunting on our own.
(2) Networking.
Most of us agree that over 80% jobs are in hidden market. Actually, we got many successful examples who got a professional job by self among the attenders and our friends. But we got much more examples whose successes were because of networking - direct or indirect connection with people who works in the associated company.

4. How to find the contact of the person in charge of hiring by cold call?
A: It is normally hard for us to reach the person in charge of hiring or who has influence on hiring by making cold call, esp. for us, because oral English is not our strength. However the 2-step cold call might be worthwhile for us to try.
(1) act as a student who is working on a project related to the target company, most likely, this way we can get the contact (name, extention number, etc.), that we want; btw, we should try to ask more info about the company or department's background as much as possible
(2) several weeks later, formally make the cold call to ask info about job opportunity

Basically, west island company roughly means English speaking company. So I got  the following strategy:
  
  1. get lists of companies in Montreal by searching www.411.ca,  www.icriq.com
  with keywords software/hardware/internet, montreal.
  
  2. once you get the address of those companies, you can determine whether  a
  company is in west island or east island by its post code.
  H1? ??? --> east island
  H2? ??? --> roughly around downtown area
  H3? ??? ~ H9? ??? --> west montreal. The greater the number after H is,  the
  farther the company is in the west of Montreal.
  
  So, you can at least exclude those companies with post code beginning with  H1?  ???.
  
  Hopefully, people who know more details about the post code system will  give
  more us a better picture for location of companies.
