Stunt Driving is a new section added to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario and can include, exceeding the speed limit by 50km/hr or more, or driving in a manner suggesting an intention to chase another motor vehicle.
You can also be charged with this offence for performing “stunts” while driving, such as “squealing” your tires or trying to maneuver your vehicle in a dangerous manner. In an attempt to make the roads in Ontario as safe as possible, the penalties for Stunt Driving have been made very severe.
If you are charged with Stunt Driving, you will immediately be issued a seven day roadside suspension of your licence. In addition, your vehicle will be impounded for seven days, at your expense.
Upon Conviction, the penalties for Stunt Driving are:
6 Demerit Points.
$2,000.00 – $10,000.00 fine
A possible suspension of your driver’s licence for a period of no more than 2 years
A possible term of imprisonment for up to 6 months |
