不得不写的交通事故

今天下午5点半到6点半之间,在Arthur-Lismer and L’acadie交界处(close Sauve street),发生一起重大交通事故。据说,一中年妇女,从bus station下车后,直穿马路回家,在对面被 truck 撞了,当场死亡。本人看了现场。实际上,只要多花2-3分钟,就能从红绿处过马路。事实上,本人也常犯同样的错误,为了早点回家作饭,照顾孩子等等。我到现在还很难受。希望大家都要主意安全,一定要遵守交通规则。今晚新闻有播。<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Crossing the street against red light or in the middle of a block is called jaywalking.3 x7 }) T7 c3 E! L
First of all it is illegal.
# N6 |. W& M2 FSecondly it is dangerous.! }0 e' ?* ~2 X: t9 Y* U2 H
If the traffic is light and there is no police around to stop you,
( A; M, S, a; v! _2 [) \3 Emost of the time there is no problem.

I am no angel. I also jaywalk.' s; m, y' c  ?" _1 w
I do it when there is no car in sight for a couple of blocks.- T- {# C- H! U3 X8 j: u
I look left and right to make sure that it is safe before crossing.
$ ?. t/ q& \" h0 A/ W) @If the traffic is heavy, I won't even try.

Unfortunately a lot of people who jaywalk are careless.
! J5 R. n9 ]9 qThey don't check how far or how fast the oncoming cars are.
, K+ o  |4 J: p0 ^They just look ahead and cross the street assuming that
/ V$ p% y+ m8 S8 t% wthe oncoming cars must slow down or stop for them.1 X  X0 S* W1 K# j5 B5 y0 n/ L. N
They might get away with that a hundred times, a thousand times.3 h3 S  _; R6 Q) d  N# I% d
Sadly one day they'll pay a big price.

One morning several years ago, a colleaque jaywalked on busy Rene Levesque street,

On that day, he dropped his briefcase, so he stepped back and picked it up.$ n+ C: t; D: C+ x4 ]5 C( j
Right in that moment, a taxi hit him.

He died in the hospital on the same day.' V5 K& r- |6 y) H0 f* I1 k

He was an athlete, running marathon, playing baseball, helping out in charity events.
