the next upcoming concert in our series of free musical offerings in Verdun. This Saturday, December 19th, at 7:30, we will have a very special piano recital, featuring movements for the "Nutcracker Suite" by P. I. Tchaikovsky, and other works for the piano by Rachmaninov and Bach.

This will be our first Russian-focusing program, and the repertoire has been specially programmed for the Christmas/Advent season. Pianist Maria Sourjko, originally from Russia, will give this special program in the fabulous and beautiful Church of Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs, corner of Wellington and eglise  in Verdun (Metro de l'église).

I do hope you will have the opportunity to hear her interpret this arrangement of Tchaikovsky's famous suite, rendered for the piano by the great Russian Pianist, Mikhail Pletnev. Pletnev made his wonderful arrangement for the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow, which he won in 1978. It is very difficult to play and rarely heard. Please bring your children and/or young family members to hear this delightful concert.

The concert is free, with proceeds going to the musicians of our series, and the doors open at 7pm. Hope to see you there!

Tomorrow's concert will be a piano recital shared by two fantastic young pianists. Jonathan Tsay, of Texas US, (who was originally booked to play this weekend), will be here to play the epic Sonata for the Piano by Franz Liszt He will be sharing his program with Elizabeth Schumann, who will compliment the Liszt with a selection of masterpieces by Frederick Chopin, including the Third Piano Sonata, the Polonaise Op. 42, and a selection of several concert Études. This will be a rare tour de force presentation of romantic piano repertoire, and as always, it will be offered free! Please come out and enjoy this very special occasion.

The concert will be Sunday December 6th (tomorrow) at 7:30 pm, at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs, located at 4155 Wellington, just a few steps from the de l'église metro. Doors open at 7pm. More info on the second concert in December will follow shortly.
