I am not associated with the organizers.
This Friend-club-organized activity
is one of the very few, if not the only, regular social dance event
that is organized by and for the Chinese community,
so I really hope that it can do well enough to become an interesting destination for most of us.

As for the music selection, yes, I agree that it is a bit weak.
It is not that they don't have a good collection,
because in the past, I've heard some really good songs in the parties.
Maybe the DJ can't really distinguish the hot numbers
from the sleep-inducing lulloby.
I think the organizers should do some house cleaning of their dance music collection before the next party.
In each dance music category, for example, ChaCha, Rumba, swing, etc. identify and rank the songs from "Wow", to "hot", to "what's this !", to "never mind".
If they don't know enough to decide,
then they should consult the people who dance often for their opinions.
Another rule is "don't play 2 songs of the same dance consecutively".

I hope they would read the posts here
or someone who know them can pass the words.

I am an average Joe.
I blend well in a crowd, so you probably wouldn't notice me
even if I were in the party.

Anyway a few of my dancing friends will be there next time.

I completely agree with you. It seems like you are very experienced in knowing how to create an excellent atmosphere for a party. You are absolutely right that very few Chinese communities organize dance party like "Friend Club" and not many social dance events are organized here for dancelovers like us.

I am currently taking basic course and wish to find a good partner and have a place to practice. I would say maybe we should gather all the dancelovers together one day and discuss how to have a dance party organized more often. I think you are a suitable candidate to become an organizer. Thanks

Organizing an event takes a lot of effort,
ex. renting a place; getting the equipment; finding music, DJ;
transporting and setting up the sound system;
advertising the event; cleaning up the room afterwards; ..., etc.
Friend club has put in much work to keep the dance event going for quite a long time.
Although the dances might not always be successful
but the organizers have their hearts in the right place,
and I think they deserve our support.
In the next dance party, we should all let the organizers know
how we feel about the party and provide constructive suggestions.
If you want them to organize it more often, you can suggest it too.
I remember that at one point in the past
the event took place every 2 weeks.
By the way, on this board there are quite a few people interested in dancing,
you can contact each other to try out different events.
I'll probably go to the swing dance in Verdun this coming Saturday.

I understand that it's not easy to organize a party.  I agree that the organizer of Friend Club has put in a lot of effort, but it's sad sometimes to see less and people going and hear about some people complaining about the party.  I am just like you and all other people would like to see the party of Friend Club going on successfully and support them. I spent over 2 hours in the outdoor swing dance party in Verdun park yesterday afternoon.
I danced a few, met up a couple of old acquaintances, saw some interesting performaces.
That place was packed with people,
even with busloads of visitors from Quebec city and Ottawa.
The atmosphere was great.
I had a lot of fun.
Did anyone else on this board go ?

organized by Salsalfolie in the old port this summer.
It'll take place from 4pm to 8pm.
There will be a draw of several prizes of presence for the tickets to the show of Afro-Cuban All Stars on September 28 in Métropolis.
