Dear friends:
It is now 6:50 pm. I am here writing to you, crying big tears, because I just called my parents and my younger brother in Wuhan. They said they had also felt the quake when they were in Wuhan. My dad told me he was just going out to donate blood with my brother. My father is already 70 years old, and not in very good health; and my younger brother just had his eyes operated 6 times last month. I cannot believe they are doing this already! My father said my older brother in Hunan (who is disabled himself) is also donating some money. I am so touched that I feel like crying when nobody is around.
It is only through this tough moment, that we realize we are all Chinese, and we are all from the same big family. If we don’t help our own people, who would? I am trying to do some fund raising with my school. I wrote the following letter to my school staff and to the school staff where my husband is working, in the hope of spreading the news around so more people could help. If you have a chance, perhaps you wouldn't mind sending it to your friends too. Here is the letter:
Dear friends:
As you may have known, yesterday a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck the southwest part of China, killing at least 12000 people. At least ten thousand people were injured, and one school with 1000 students and teachers were almost all buried alive when their school about 100 kilometers from the quake epicenter, was collapsed. The death toll is rising quickly.
When we read the devastating news, our hearts and prayers go out to all those in China who were hit with this huge disaster, and we are trying to think of any possible ways to help those who are desperately in need. If you are looking to contribute to the current aid efforts, you can now donate online to the Red Cross Society of Canada. Just make sure you select Fund Designation “China Earthquake”.
