Don't think in this way. You are hurting yourself and other people. All the immigrants when they begin to live in this city, they have to face with the same problem--a totally strange society. In this sense, they will make lots of efforts to adapt to this new environment. --For us, this could be a tremendous difficulty-one thing is the fact of most of us come here with no language compare with other country's immigrants who can speak fluent E or F. another thing is that even we learn hardly, we can not get faster than the others, because Chinese has a much far distance than other language to French. The third thing is when we come here, we are truly had missed the best time to learn language, and we have no so much time to learn, we have to take care of family.
We don't desire to be as good as those very successful people, it is not reality. But for most of us, try to speak some E or F will make you feel easier to live a life here--I promise you won't feel regret to try those ways if you can. But my reminding--if you always reject the new language--don't speak E or F, just speak C, of course you feel no way to closer yourself to this city's life.
Don't think you are a Chinese, don't think the different between you and other nation's people like Africans, Europeens, South Americans or Indians, you are the same with them, you are a montrealer now, and actually it is, yes, even they can speak both languages very well, and more even, many local people they do the same jobs with you, earn the same salary--that's to say, not only you earn the lowest payment--not only you. What do you feel about that?
Don't look down your nose at those Chinese people who try to become or pretend to become middle-class or main-stream, they trek their climbing up, with efforts, you can say nothing wrong with them, in this sense. If you view them as nothing, you will be a negative--you are much less than them.
Feel easy to them, and feel easy to yourself. If you really feel uneasy to live here, choose another province, or back to China. It's not so bad by choosing changes. Yes, you've lost some of your time, but you're trying to do the best from it.
