I received several emails asking how to apply hunting permit and firearm license. I don't have time to reply one by one, so I reply the question here.
it is easy but takes time, so you need to schedule yourself.

first, in Canada, to be able to hunting, you need two documents: one is the permit for hunting (similar to fishing permit), the second is the license of firearm sine hunting is considered as a risk sport, hunter need special license to posse firearm (i.e if you have a criminal record, you can't apply the possession of firearm).

second, to have the two documents, you have to pass firearm safety and security training exams. you can find a training  course center near your community by call the phone number at your resident province from the link http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/safe_sur/cont-eng.htm .

usually, this training course takes two days (in the weekend), morning is the time for the trainer's course, right after the course, it will be the exam. you need to read the training document before the training course if you don't have any firearm knowledge and hunting experience.

usually, you need to register the training course as many people apply (even many young kids!) for the course and permits. this is especially true at small cities.

after the exam, (if you pass the exam, it is easy to pass) you will receive your hunting permit in two or three weeks.

once you received that permit, you can apply your firearm license (permit) by filling a form which can be downloaded from the link above. you should ask the course trainer as they know how to do that and they even can be your guarantor (you need three people to be your gurrantor to apply your firearm permit).

after you have these two documents (cards), then you can start purchasing your firearms and locate where you want to hunt to prepare your hunting campsite.

that's it. it's easy, but it will take you about three months to have all the documents. if you want to hunt in the Fall, you need to finish your exam in June at the latest and make sure you have the documents before or in August.

hunting season starts at September.
