my study regarding building a home
A couple of months ago when I thought of similar question: buy a house or build a new one and I ran across a website explaining step tyb step how to build your own house: get construction loan (US case, not sure about Canada) , select land, find the design, how to hire sub- contractor for each step such as digging ground, pouring concrete, carpenter, roofing, etc. Very much in detail.
After reading his many page description, I agreed with the author that it is possible for us to build our own home . According to the author, the total cost will be about one third less the price you buy from the builder. However, it takes a lot of study, research, careful planning and supervision, and enthusiam. Actually, I think the one third of price builder makes can be called "overhead", or management cost. Since all prodcers sell their products at the price more than the components cost, we should accept the high price from builder. hahaha. of course, they are making high profit. but I am not going to build my own home, unless I want to be a builder after :-) |
