It is dangerous as the brake maybe not working at N position , it doesn't matter auto or manuel car.......so for safey, don't do it , also it won't save gas...

BTW, my purpose is not to save gas.I just want to stop the car efficiently.
My thought was:
with shift on D and the engine is still pushing the car forward, so it may take more time to stop or slow down the car.
If it is on N shift, there is no power pushing the car. And the break is just against the inertia of the car.
And I think the break works at N position, because I usually shift to N while I am waiting for traffic light and still hold the break. |
