If you are interested, .....   算是正式说法吧。
但是 if you are interesting, ..... 也可以。网友见面前,妹妹们也常开玩笑说:“如果你很有趣的话,可能成为偶地朋友。”    所以,人家的说法,怎么解释,都不为过,不为过。

Sweetheart_X, do you understand me in the above Chinese?
==================

Hi, all friends here, why do you like to disturb another friend who wishes to learn Chinese ?

I think Sweetheart_X performs well in his English.  Go ahead, friends.

Sweetheart-X: I am not interested in fighting with you here, since your comprehension ability needs to improve a lot, and you'd better return to school to learn Logic. You understand what i wrote, but you don't understand what i meant. You would say"you continue to improve your english...". You know how to take the fragment "if i can read the Chinese newspaper..", but how do u explain article THE before Chinese newspaper? i feel embarrassed for you, guy. I am not interested in comparing my english knowledge with your wife, if you believe your wife's english is better, fine, it is up to you. You mentioned you had academic publication, You can also refer to British Journal Of Pharmacology, May, 1997, check my publication.

I posted my opinion here because i don't like the way you treated my Chinese fellows.  Now you put forward other conditions of your future mandarin teacher. Do you know what mandarin really means? Don't tell me it is the name of orange. Don't treat this post as demonstration. If i were you, i would simply tell the truth: sorry, it was my Chinese wife who posted the message. I think everybody understands right away, no further questions.  However, you choose to help correct Chinese students' writing.  We appreciate it, but people in Canada have tendency to blame it on somebody. I don't like this kind of attitude, if you wife used your name to  post message, you just explained to everybody. In future, I won't be interested in response to your threads anymore. After you improve your Logic ability, we continue to discuss any issues. English syntax is learnt in primary school, Logic is leart in grade10-12 and improved in university. Don't tell it is typographical error: Hebei - Hubei. Do you understand why your wife can't teach you even though you claimed "she is very talented in english, mandarin and Cantonesse..." Your wife gave wrong suggestion: learn mandaran from beijinese or hebeinese.

Finally , i like to say that it is not personal attack, i just listed facts.  You have to understand who created the problem? Don't treat symptoms, we treat cause.

Logic

Actually, you are interested in fighting with me, because if you followed a level of logic that is reflective of a higher education, you would notice that all of your new “arguments”, once again, have no basis. You claim to list just the facts, but you list them in a manner designed to attack. The sentence fragment “If I can read the Chinese newspaper…” is in and of itself grammatically correct. The article “the” denotes a specific Chinese newspaper: the newspaper that SQMedia was referring me to. Therefore, since I am referring to a specific newspaper, the article “the” is required to illustrate that.  I am sure that someone with your level of education can understand this logic.

While we are on the topic of logic, please refrain from challenging me in an area that is clearly not your area of expertise: English or logic. Actually, your English is not too bad, and far better than my Mandarin (of which I know none). However, it is not nearly on the same level as mine. Thus, you should not be challenging my English, just as I would never challenge your Mandarin. Logically, when one has demonstrated superiority in a certain area, the person interested to learn should defer. Hopefully, even through fighting with me you will learn.

P.S. That is great that you claim to have a publication in the British Journal of Pharmacology (1997)! Unfortunately, I was unable to find any publication under the name of cloudrain2000. =(. If you would like, you can refer to The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (2005), under the title “Hemodilution and surgical hemostasis contribute significantly to transfusion requirements in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass”. You already have my name. Alternatively, I can provide you with a .pdf copy if you like.

You say that you do not like the way your Chinese fellows were treated by me. I did not treat them badly. If you follow the logic and the flow of conversation, who was the one who attacked who first? Who created the problem and who was on the defensive? In terms of correcting the English, if people are interested to question my ability, and are so quick to judge from a typographical error, then obviously they require a clear and solid demonstration. You seem to require multiple demonstrations; thus, it appears as if you are just not interested in having peaceful conversations. Furthermore, someone with your level of education and “logical ability” would have noticed that I did indeed inform everyone that my wife posted the message. Furthermore, I never wrote that Hubei was a typographical error; instead, I wrote that I was unsure how to spell it because I am not familiar enough with China. Everyone else seems to understand this, why don’t you? You should carefully re-read my posts.  That is why you are the only one who continues to question, because unfortunately you are the only one who did not understand. That is alright, I can take this opportunity to explain it to you. As one educated individual to another, I would offer a piece of advice on logic: in order to be truly logical, one must carefully examine all of the facts and evidence before rushing to judgment. One who rushes to judgment out of emotion and partial information is not logical, for emotions are in and of themselves not always rational processes, and using only part of the available information creates an imbalanced view.

It is really a shame that some people do not wish to create a warm and open atmosphere for the fun exchange of language. So what if some small error in writing was committed in the earlier messages? Subsequent messages have obviously cleared up that misunderstanding! You claim that “in the future you are not interested to reply to my posts”, but this is typically the logic of a child who is angry that he or she did not get what she wanted and then decides to throw a temper tantrum. Please, control your emotions and let us discuss things together as adults, in a civilized and peaceful manner! We are all mature here. I welcome any stories you may have about the differences and similarities between Canada and China…

Hey dingding1234, I read about that research. It is actually true and amazing how the brain works sometimes! I like your message, lol.

Chapulin, thanks for your advice. I really don't take those kind of people as representative of Chinese. I think that (just like in every culture and country) you always have some people who are not happy. Thanks for the beginning lesson in Chinese!

I have a question though, does anyone know if there is a website where I can listen to the sound of Chinese? Learning English is a little bit different, because the words and letters generally match the sounds, but when I try to match sounds to Chinese characters, I find I am totally lost! Any advice?

Yes, it is true that my wife posted the message and that I indicated this to clear up any misunderstandings, but since it is under my name and for my benefit, I am taking responsibility for it. As you will notice in the remainder of my correspondence, the first-person is used. If you do not understand what the first-person is, that means I use “I” as the subject. Additionally, you don’t have to worry, your English ability isn’t anywhere near her level. You still have lots of room for improvement. Just examine the corrections to your first message more closely. On the other hand, your friend who offered some suggestions to improve my writing does have pretty good English writing skills. Nonetheless, these suggestions are also flawed, as demonstrated below:

1. Regardless of whether or not “would” is required, inserting “would” into this sentence is grammatically correct. The logic behind this is because this sentence is in the conditional present tense. Read up to refresh your memory about this topic, or ask the person you had “edit” my writing to fully understand this concept.

2. Adding either “some” or “the” into the sentence in question is unnecessary: adding the word “some” is redundant and the article “the” would only be used if I am referring to once specific reference. See my reply to cloudrain2000 for a more detailed explanation about the use of the article “the”.

3. In your less-than-logical attempt to correct my first point (“think you should still keep learning your mother tongue no matter you are 25 or 35”), you are actually contradicting yourself. You claim that your message was clear, and indicate that you think I require an additional decade to master my maiden language. Yet in my interpretation of my message, I reached that very same conclusion and you claim that I misinterpreted your words. If we both reached the same conclusion, I fail to see how I could have misinterpreted your words. You should take cloudrain2000’s advice and develop your logical ability before making an argument. By the way, “misinterpretted” is actually spelt “misinterpreted”; however, I am willing to grant that you may have simply made a typing error.

Unfortunately, your flaw in logical thinking is also evident in your attempt to correct my second point (“Forget the Chinese in a few years”). You claim that you were referring to learning the Chinese language, and that I misinterpreted your words again. However, I indicated that I had reached that very same conclusion. Once again, if you and I both reach the same conclusion, how is it that I could have misinterpreted you? Furthermore, while I initially thought that you misspelled “misinterpreted” as the result of a typographical error, the fact that you repeated the error a second time leads me to believe that you really think misinterpreted is spelt “misinterpretted”. I will reiterate: misinterpreted is the correct spelling of the word.

Instead of attacking, you should learn from the corrections and this way you will improve your English. Hey, it’s a free English lesson…or maybe you prefer to pay for the same thing? I don’t think you “ran out of time” to “correct” the rest of my writing; rather, you just have not found anything wrong with it. Nonetheless, at least if you are spending your time attempting to dissect it for errors, you are learning English. I am happy to provide this service to you. =)
