Unheard Voice about Tibet: Violence Can Achieve Nothing
More than 100 people rally in Montreal to denounce recent violence in Tibet and support Chinese government’s effort to restore order and law.
Montreal, Quebec. March 22, 2008 – Oversea Chinese people in Montreal gather in front of the Place du Canada to voice their seldom-heard feelings and thinking about the recent situation in Tibet.
We strongly denounce rioters’ violence toward civilians recently happened in Tibet and are against any sorts of hatreds among ethnic groups. We support Chinese governmen’effort to stop violence and restore order and law in these areas. Lessons from history and today’s conflicting areas told us: violence can achieve nothing. It will only produce more hot spots and make the world further unsafe.
We call for the media adopt a more balanced perspective to encourage non-violence and reconciliation, to help relieve tensions between ethnic groups, and to avoid escalation of violence in Tibet and neighboring areas.
Although against any attempts to split China, we sympathize with reasonable demands of Tibetan people to improve China’s current policies on cultural reservation and economic development in Tibet. We also support any peaceful and lawful ways to achieve the goal. We strongly believe that non-violence, restraint, and patience are the only right attitude to find possible solutions for any conflicting issues in today’s world.
We also encourage people all over the world to take possible chances, including the Olympics Games, to get to know more about China, to walk into China, to contact ordinary Chinese people. A country with five thousand year’s history will evolve into an more open and better place within an open and friendly world. China’s past thirty-year’s open-up experience has proved it.
