Here is my tips to get Digital channel:

1. Antenna set up: you can check US station at following link:

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/maps/

By inputing your address, you can get which station is available in your location. you can drag the red mark to exact where the antenna is(using satellite map), and click stationon on the list, it will give direction. you can check If trees block it or not. But you should have some kind of signal for a good antanna. channel 5-1, and 57-1 should be ok at west island.

You can add a signal amplifier(booster) if the cable is long and signal is weak.


2. Check input: antenna connect to DTV input, make sure TV input is Air, local, or antenna, not Cable.

3. Search Channel:
If every thing is ok, signal is strong enough, you can automatical program,scan, search, add, or setup DTV(different name for

different TV brand). Save it before exit.

If signal is not strong enough or it is a indoor antenna, you had better to manual program, setup, scan, search or add channels. Since by reading the signal strength or SNR(signal noise ratio) on signal meter, you know which direction, locaton is good for which channel. You can add channel one by one by adjust antenna.

Following is channel list in Montreal region:

13, (22-1, 22-2), WVNY (ABC)
14,(5-1,5-2) WPTZ (NBC)
19, (2-1) CBFT (SRC), french
20, (6-1) CBMT (CBC)
22, (3-1,3-2) WCAX (CBS)
27,(17-1) CIVM,(TQc) Tele-Quebec , french
32,(33-1,33-2,33-3,33-4) WETK (PBS)
38, (57-1,57-2,57-3) WCFE (PBS)
42, (35-1) CFJP (TQS) french
43,(44-1,44-2) WFFF (FOX)


The first # is physical channel, second # is virtual or mapped channel. After set up, TV only display mapped ch#.

In west island, it is difficult to get ch 13, 19, 20. The antenna is normal for UHF and 13 is VHF. 19, 20 are transmited at the top CBC building, it may be blocked by royal Mt. Any other Channels should be ok if you fine tune the antenna.

我住在downtown，下午看到了这个帖子。晚上决定试一下！
在Homedepot 买的板子和transformer，一共5刀。用了10个衣架，螺丝垫片若干，cable一根。还顺带把剩下的衣架头安在木板上，正好挂在窗帘杆上。非常清晰的高清台可以收到10个左右，剩下的4，5个台虽然不是非常清楚，但也跟普通cable差不多。加上普通cable，一共有20多个台！够用了！非常感谢楼主！

天线完工了，多收一个模拟台。可能是由于电视是普通电视。但所以的台都很清楚。

My boyfriend made the 2 antennas, I don't know the details.  He just followed the video.

"到MTL好像需要60db的增益，要有源放大器？" ==> Believe u are talking about "Booster".  Personally, I find this 鱼骨天线 better than our old antenna with booster.  Our friend gave us a new antenna with booster for digitized signal, NOT much better than the 鱼骨天线 at our place.

"天线完工了，多收一个模拟台 。。 但所以的台都很清楚。" ==> Congratulation, try different directions(方向), may be u'll get more channel(s).

"可能是由于电视是普通电视" ==> for the Digitized(or is it HD:p) signal, u do need a special converter for the old style TV.  Believe it's ~$80 in Canadian Tire, not worth the money.  Ours is given by a friend.

垫片和transformer在GUY的那家中国人开的店有卖的。那个U/V t 不是我原先以为的差转，是阻抗转换，是用同轴电缆的，扁平馈线可不使用。另外引入线如接在1/2略偏上似乎好于正中间。

Anyone wants to take the 8 pieces? ONLY the 2x4 v-shape pieces on both side of Antenna.

. . . . . . We striped the paint about 1 cm on each tip(all 16), receiving of digital signal got worst, less stable. Regular channel improved. We have made a new set of 8 pieces, not stripping the paint this time :p . Anyone wants to play with the old pieces, please let me know. Pick up at Berri MTR.
